Game of Thrones Blog 1

Bran Pages(13-22)

This chapter begins with Bran, the second youngest son to Lord Stark, going with a precession of the men of Winterfell to see his first beheading. Bran is told to look directly at the beheading by his older step-brother Jon Snow, which he does well apparently. On the ride back Robb Stark and Jon Snow discover something extremely rare, a dead direwolf mother with an antler in her throat and five pups. The party finds it best to kill them, even though Bran protests. Then Jon Snow points out that the direwolf is Starks family sigil and there're five Stark children two girls and three boys just like the pups. This is deemed as a good enough sign to keep them and give them to the kids, and to top it all off a runt is found for Jon Snow(how fitting).

I chose this chapter for many reasons, not because I didn't want to read past Chapter two and thought it would be a good place to stop and write about. First this chapter has a vast deal of characterization since it is the first real chapter to flow with the rest of the story and introduce the main characters for now. It also holds a very important omen in the book or foreshadowing to us. The direwolf mother with the antler stuck in her neck. Although it wouldn't be know to anyone who had just read this section of the book, that omen foretells a dark and bloody future. This Chapter has Bran experience his first roll as a man does and has a bit of the rolls of a Stark explained to him. This is a sad thought considering he will probably never experience the life he would have had. This chapter sets the stage for what kind of book this will be and I think is the most important chapter of this section (except for maybe Dany's which runs parallel).   -Will Kemp 2/04/15
