A Game of Thrones-Post 1

For my first post for the Game of Thrones, I chose Bran's first chapter.  In this chapter, told from Bran's perspective, his father is going to execute a man for deserting his crew.  Bran, a seven year old, must watch the execution, in which the man killed doesn't resist.  Robb, Bran's blood brother, said the man died bravely while Jon, a bastard child, thinks he died without courage and instead was afraid.  Bran is confused on who to believe, so his father says that it is impossible to be brave without courage.  He also explains that the one who sentences someone to die must be the one to do it.  If you can't do it, then the man doesn't deserve to die.  Robb finds a dead direwolf with 5 pups.  Bran's father says it's merciful to kill them, but Jon convinces him that it's a sign that there are 5 pups and 5 children in the Stark family.  Jon finds a fifth albino puppy and takes it as his.
This chapter is significant in the overall story because it is the first chapter where you realize all of the chapters are connected, but in a unique way specific to this book.  Also it introduces several characters which have their own chapters, and own perspectives.  For instance, in the chapter Jon, you can see his direwolf growing and changing its behavior.  I chose this chapter because it was a simple chapter to understand.  It was the first chapter of main characters, and revealed Ned to be a rational man.  It could potentially introduce the topic of capital punishment as it had an execution in it.
